Effects of the programme for the various subjects and groups of subjects:
Diploma seminar (including preparation of MA dissertation) (P1):
After completing the course, the students:
Knowledge
Will have expanded their knowledge of selected aspects of the Middle Ages.
Will have expanded their knowledge of sources dealing with the Middle Ages.
Will be familiar with the achievements of the main trends in historiography for selected aspects of the Middle Ages.
Skills
Will be able to apply methods of critical assessment of historical and archaeological sources.
Will be able to collect and systematise the sources and scholarly studies needed for their dissertation.
Will be able to prepare an oral presentation concerning the subject of their dissertation.
Will be able to formulate the theses for their dissertations and substantiate them.
Will be able to evaluate the historiography and current state of research into the selected question.
Social competences
Will be able to assess their own competences with regard to their historical and archaeological skills.
Will be aware of the need to constantly expand their knowledge and develop their skills.
Will be able to engage in a constructive exchange of views, formulate substantive arguments and express their opinions, respecting other people.
Seminar paper (P2):
After getting credits for their papers, the students:
Knowledge
Will have acquired knowledge enabling them to analyse and interpret historical and archaeological sources needed for the study of their chosen subject.
Will have acquired knowledge of the specificity of their subject and of the methodology of the study of the Middle Ages.
Will have learned to use the correct terminology relating to research into their subject.
Will be familiar with the historiography dealing with their subject.
Skills
Will be able to present their opinion on their subject in a clear, systematic and cogent manner in writing.
Will be able to use methods and tools of a historian and archaeologist to study and present their subject.
Will be able to correctly define, explain and use in writing the right terminology relating to their subject.
Will be able to recognise, use and analyse texts useful in their work on their chosen topic relating to the Middle Ages.
Will be able to formulate their theses and arguments using the relevant literature on the subject.
Social competences
Will understand the necessity to observe ethical norms in their work as historians and archaeologists.
Will be aware of their professional skills and understand that they should constantly develop their professional competences.

After completing the course, the students:
Knowledge
Will be familiar with methods of translating old texts from their selected language.
Will be familiar with the specialist terminology used in translated texts.
Will be familiar with the basic linguistic forms characteristic of the given period.
Will be familiar with the rules and forms of writing down and reading old texts.
Skills
Will be able to translate old texts in their chosen language.
Will be able to use their historical knowledge to translate and interpret old texts in their chosen language.
Will recognise and understand the most important abbreviations used in encyclopaedic entries and back matter.
Will be able to use language dictionaries.
Social competences
Will understand the need to become familiar with the cultural context of the translated text in order to understand that text correctly.
Will be aware of their professional skills relating to translation of old texts from their chosen language and understand that they should constantly develop these skills.
Diploma seminar – supplementary curriculum (G1):
After completing the course, the students:
Knowledge
Will have expanded their knowledge of research problems concerning the Middle Ages.
Skills
Will use the correct terminology relating to the Middle Ages.
Social competences
Will be able to independently define their research interests.
Thematic course (G2):
After completing the course, the students:
Knowledge
Will have acquired knowledge of the course theme.
Will be familiar with selected types of sources used in the study of the course theme.
Will be familiar with the specificity of research methodology relating to the course theme.
Will be familiar with the basic historiography dealing with the course theme.
Skills
Will be able to carry out a critical analysis of the sources relating to the course theme.
Will be able to use the correct terminology relating to the course theme.
Will be able to place events and phenomena relating to the course theme within a broader historical context.
Social competences
Will show understanding of the world of values and attitudes of people in various historical periods and contexts.
Will appreciate the achievements of other sciences and are willing to use them in studying the course theme.
Will be aware of the continuity and change in various aspects of the life of societies.
